Soup & Salad

Trainings

For parents of children with special needs, our journey can be a difficult one - and, at the same time, one filled with much joy.  Our children are special; unique, amazing, beautiful, innocent, vulnerable, and, at times, a challenge - and they deserve a bright future.

Families of children with special needs - who share this strong common bond - must learn to be good advocates. This is why we are reaching out to you:  it's time for us to "gather together" and learn how we can make a difference in the lives of our children.

For years The Arc of Delaware has provided advocacy and direct support to parents throughout Delaware.  We have helped parents understand the IEP process, attended IEP meetings with parents, and helped parents learn to be strong advocates.

We've also seen that parents of children with special needs who mentor other parents by sharing hard-earned wisdom, effective strategies, and tips for success can make a huge difference to families who need help.  With increasing requests for support, there is growing need for more parent mentors.

The Arc of Delaware and Delaware Family Voices Family to Family Health Information Center have joined forces to expand The Arc Parent Mentor Program.  This program has been designed with help from Delaware Department of Education, The University of Delaware, and The Parent Information Center.  To learn more...
